If you are 15 or older and looking for a great summer job or a challenging career, one that will help you develop skills and experience that will be valued by colleges and future employers, American Red Cross Lifeguarding is the best place to start. Through online & classroom learning as well hands-on practice, you’ll learn: Surveillance skills to help you recognize and prevent injuries Rescue skills – in the water and on land First aid training and professional rescuer CPR – to help you prepare for any emergency Professional lifeguard responsibilities like interacting with the public and addressing uncooperative patrons. Please note this class is taught via the Red Cross Blended Learning Method, meaning prior to your in person session at the Chamblee Charter High School, all students must complete ~10 hours of online course work. Upon arriving to class, student’s must provide their instructors a printed copy of the online completion report. If the student does not have the online portion of the class completed, they will not be permitted to take the course and may forfeit the cost of the class at the instructor's discretion. |
Description: This class is the most recent revision of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Class, 25 hours and 2 year LGT, CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification. This class is open to students at least fifteen years of age by the last day of class. Students must be able to complete, unaided, at least 12 continuous lengths (300 yards) of a 25-yard pool, be able to retrieve a 10lb brick from the bottom and swim it across the pool, and tread water for 2 mins without using your hands in order to enroll in the class. A fee of $235 is charged to cover the cost of books, materials, and instruction. Students will complete the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course, while also learning and reviewing the fundamental aspects of working as a professional lifeguard. Testing will include performance of required rescue, CPR/AED, and First Aid skills, and the standard Red Cross Course written examinations for CPR and AED, First Aid, and Lifeguarding Skills. Students successfully passing the written and performance tests will receive the American Red Cross credentials for the Professional Lifeguard. This is a complete course, every certification you need to be a lifeguard.

An abbreviated lifeguarding course that briefly reviews course information and allows practice of skills and knowledge before testing. Current certification in Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED is required to participate in the review course. This course is taught as blended learning class with 10 hours of online training followed by 1 day of in person review, skills check, and written tests. Students MUST complete online course a full 24 hours before the first class session begins.
Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED which is valid for 2 years.
